Meltblown PP – High-Efficiency Nonwoven Media from Mogul
Mogul operates as a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of meltblown polypropylene (PP) fabrics together with composite nonwoven structures including SM (Spunbond-Meltblown) and SMS (Spunbond-Meltblown-Spunbond). The meltblown PP fabrics from Mogul serve multiple filtration and industrial needs by providing excellent particle capture and low pressure drop and high surface area properties which establish them as the preferred solution for demanding filtration and technical applications.
What is Meltblown Technology?
Meltblown is a nonwoven manufacturing technique in which thermoplastic polymers, such as polypropylene, are melted and extruded through fine nozzles. High-velocity hot air blows the polymer streams into microfibers, significantly finer than those in spunbond materials. These fibers are collected into a self-bonded web, forming a high-efficiency nonwoven fabric with an ultra-fine structure.
As a result, lightweight material delivers excellent filtration efficiency, absorbency, and surface functionality, especially in applications where particle retention, breathability, and barrier protection are key.
Product Configurations: Stand alone Meltblown and Composites
Mogul provides pure monolayer meltblown PP fabrics and composite structures that increase strength and broaden functionality:
-
A spunbond layer attached to the meltblown core for improved durability.
-
The product line includes cellulose pulp integration as an optional feature for specific wet wipe and absorbent applications.
-
Receives its bonding through thermal calendaring or ultrasonic welding methods based on performance needs.
-
The layered structures enable users to customize filtration properties together with mechanical strength and processing performance according to their specific application needs.
Advantages Of Using Mogul’s Meltblown
Mogul’s meltblown polypropylene products are produced to be precise, reliable and producible in large quantities. Some of the advantages include:
-
Fiber diameter is usually in the range of 1–5 microns, which makes the filter very efficient
-
The surface area is high to enhance the rate of particle capture.
-
Low pressure drop and good airflow
-
The material is hydrophobic by nature, or can be made hydrophilic if necessary.
-
Lightweight yet strong and therefore suitable for single use or disposable products.
-
Good roll formation quality and uniformity.
-
It is also possible to impart additives such as electrostatic charge, surfactant coating, etc.
A Wide Range of Applications
PP meltblown fabrics are considered as best suited for fine filtration, soft, and stable structure for use in various industries:
1. Air Filtration
It is used in the construction of HVAC systems, air purifiers, respirators, and industrial ventilation systems. The structure of the fibres ensures that dust and particles are removed from the air with low resistance.
2. Face Masks and Respirators
Meltblown PP as a core layer in surgical masks, FFP2/FFP3 respirators and N95 type masks to capture airborne pathogens, droplets and dust particles.
3. Dry Wipes and Disposable Cloths
Lightweight, absorbent, and clean, meltblown is a great non-woven fabric to use for dry cleaning wipes, sanitizing cloths and industrial cleaning sheets. It can also be layered with cellulose or spunlace for extra functionality.
4. Support Layers for Composites
It is used as a substrate in nano coating applications, laminates or multi layer composites. The surface is consistent and the web formation is uniform to give excellent bonding and support.
5. Medical and Hygiene Products
Other than masks, meltblown PP is used in gowns, drapes, and sanitary products because it has good barrier properties and feel.
Specialty Polymers and Extended Capabilities
The Mogul production line includes polypropylene alongside other specialty polymers that generate meltblown fabrics for demanding applications:
-
The PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) material serves as a filtration medium for hot harsh chemicals mainly used in automotive and industrial oil and gas operations.
-
The TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) material delivers elasticity together with stretch properties and flexibility for PSA and elastic applications.
-
Mogul extends its meltblown product line to include these materials which can be adapted for particular temperature, chemical or mechanical performance needs.
Mogul is a key supplier of meltblown and SMS fabrics globally. Meltblown is a polymer based technology where high velocity air attenuates extruded fibers that are much finer than spunbond. These fine fibers provide exceptionally high surface area for multiple applications, especially filtration. Mogul can supply monolithic meltblown fabrics or composite fabrics with spunbond on one side (SM) or both sides(SMS) of the meltblown. The spunbond layer provides the additional strength needed for applications such as medical or critical filtration.

In addition to polypropylene (PP) meltblown Mogul also produces PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) meltblown fabrics. PBT is used for filtration when resistance to chemicals and high temperatures is required while polyester based TPU provides good compression set, elasticity and high resilience for applications requiring stretching.
